We did say it was going to be, last week we did say it was going to be sort of different locations and we don't know where we're going to be. It all depends on the schedule really, doesn't it?

It just so happens that this is the best place for us today. Right, let's get straight into our topics. Taylor, would you like to go first or shall I?

So I would like to talk about a new improvement and a new release in 3D printing. So during the week, when was it? On the Tuesday, I think it was Bambu Lab, who are, you know, quite big players in the 3D printing space. They're like the Apple of 3D printing, I would say, because what they've done is they basically created their own ecosystem and their own devices which work with their system and they control the hardware, they control the software and it's a really good experience for users. But they released a brand new printer. Now, we knew it was coming because they've teased it a little while ago. But it was really interesting to see a bit more detail about it and to see how it actually worked and how it compares with the other printers that are now in their line up. So I bought, let's see, June I think it was, not that long ago, the Bambu Lab X1C, which at the time was the top model that they did. They've since come out with the H series. Now the H series has effectively replaced the X1C with a higher spec'd machine and they brought the lower spec machine, the P1S, up to the P2S, which is, no PS2?

Oh, not sure now. I think it's the P1S and the P2S. So they brought it up so that the spec is higher but not quite at the level of the X1C. So it's still a really good machine, the X1C and I'm still really pleased I've got it. However, the H series changed it completely. So the first one that came out was the H2D and this was a two head printer. So it was a larger machine. The print bed was a lot, a lot larger. I think it's like 350 ish around that. And it's got two heads. So you can effectively print with two different filaments with two different heads without having to change the filament. Because that's what slows down multicolour prints when you've got two different colour filaments, or more, and you're purging between each change. So the way it works is, it basically cuts the filament and retracts it, sends the new one down, but it then has to purge what's already in there because the cut filament can't be retracted because it's already there. Plus it's a different colour. So it has to purge all of the filament by pushing it through, melting it, creating what's called filament poop, I know, it's a horrible name.

And that comes out the back, where it would obviously come out, once it's done. And the new filament is then primed and ready to go. And it needs to do that every time it changes a colour. So if you've got a one head unit, it needs to do that every time you change the filament. If you've got a two head unit and you're only printing in two colours, well, that's fine because it can have one in each and then it can just choose which printhead it's using to print with and it's very much quicker. That's the H2D. The H1D. No, that's not right. The H1S is the next model they brought out and that was a one head unit. So a single S being for the single, D for dual. Maybe it's the H2S then? Yeah, I think it's the H2S. It gets a bit confusing, but the H2S, assuming that's what it is, has a single head. So it still has to do what we've just described. But it's got the larger print bed, it's got slightly better camera, it's got a few extra things in there. Like there's an LED underneath the print bed, which is quite cool, and it will show you the progress of the print using a bar.

So it's like blue and it will go all the way along to the end until it's finished. So you can immediately, without looking at the screen. So from across the room you can see, you know, how far through the print it is.

It'll also flash red, I think, if there's an issue. So if you've got multiple Machines, you can very quickly and easily just glance at them and see what needs looking at, or if there's any issues.

So the one they've just brought out this week is the H2C. So the C stands for colour. And what they've done is they've, instead of getting multiple heads, so other printer companies have got, like, the PRUSA 5XL has got basically five heads and it just picks the head that it needs with the colour automatically in it already, and it starts printing with that one and then it docks it and it picks up a new one. Bit like a CNC machine with different tool heads.

Yeah.
[00:06:05.28] - Gordon
And that's their way of not having any poop, any wasted filament. So the way that Bambu Lab have done it is they're changing the nozzle. So the nozzle will have the printer filament in it. When you change the nozzle, it cuts the filament so it can retract the filament, because there's still one Belden tube that feeds all of the filaments into the heads and then it picks up a new nozzle and then it feeds through the filament for that nozzle. It then has to then purge what's in the head that was cut, but it does that into a tower. So basically you're getting a waste tower, which is not required, but is really useful to make sure it's primed.

So the filament is ready to go on the actual model and it uses that to purge the filament. But it doesn't have to change the colour, therefore it doesn't have to send out as much as it would if it was doing it with a filament poop. And so it's a lot quicker. And these nozzles are using a technology which you may have on your saucepans. It's using the, what's the word I'm looking for?

Induction.
[00:07:36.05] - Gordon
Thank you. It's the induction heating method, which means it can bring that nozzle up to temperature in 8 seconds, which is really, really quick. So you are cutting down on the amount of poop that you get, the wastage of filament. But you're also speeding up your print because it takes, I think it's 40 seconds in total to change the nozzle, bring it up to temperature, bring the new filament in, print the, onto the prime tower and then go back to your print. And they've got six different nozzles that you can use, plus it's a dual headed device. So it's still got one nozzle that has one filament already in it all the time. That doesn't change, unless of course you want to purge that one and get a new one through.

So you're getting the benefits of a two headed machine but you've also got an extra five, so you've got seven in total, nozzles that you can switch out for on the right handed head. And so it's, it's really a really intriguing system and a really good system for multicolour. You're still going to have you know, a reasonable amount of time to print these things because it's sort of 40 seconds every time it changes a nozzle. But if you're doing multiple of the same model that have you know, 10, 20 different colour changes in, then it's going to be really, really quick compared to a one nozzle system.

Yeah, definitely.

And so that went on, on sale and you get sort of an extra AMS. So the AMS is the Automatic Material System which feeds the material into the printer. So you get one as standard which has a four bay AMS which gives you four filaments but you can go for an extra additional add on which gives you a second AMS which gives you eight filaments which gives you enough to feed your six nozzles and you get an AMSHT which is a one bay nozzle for the single nozzle which you can have a multiple AMS on if you wish. And you can do it that way if you wanted to. And you're getting extra nozzles, also you're getting different sized nozzles. So a 0.4 is the standard nozzle. But you can get a 0.6 which comes as part of this system which allows you to print more filament at a time so you can print quicker. Basically because you don't have as many walls that you need to print to get the same thickness so you can print things thicker and quicker. And you've also got a point two nozzle which is great for detail.

So if you've got writing for example in your print and you want the print to be really crisp, you can have a point two nozzle which then is a lot finer. What you can't do currently is mix the nozzles so you can't have a point four, change it to a 0.6, change it to a 0.2, all within the same print. That's not possible.

Okay.

Maybe in the future. They've said it's not possible currently, so maybe there'll be a software update to allow that. So the price of this machine in the UK is £2,400 for the all singing, all dancing one. So the extra one, which, you know, is, is not a bad price actually, for what it is, based on the fact that the, the H2D with the 2 nozzle system is like £1999. So, you know, you're getting a very similar price to that.

Not much more.

But for so much more functionality. And it's got, you know, the bed which has the Ultra Micron camera system, so it can make sure it's really, really precise when it's printing. It's got multiple cameras, so it's got one looking down, it's got one looking across, it's got all the AI, the AI can now look into...
[00:12:04.27] - Gordon
I don't know quite how it does this. Look into the tubes to see if there's any breakages in the tubes and if so, where it is, so you can clear it quite quickly. There's lots of, you know, extra additions to the technology here. Plus you're getting the bigger unit with the bigger bed to what I already have. So I have actually ordered one. I don't need one. I would like one. I think it will be really, really good to be able to print multicolour things really quickly. And by having two printers, I can then have one doing maybe a really long print and the other one can be doing things that are quite quick to do. And I'm not sort of just using up all of my print capacity with one model and having to wait for that to finish. So it's not something I need, but it's something I definitely want, which is why I've ordered it. It's not due to be shipped until the 4th of December. There's an £84 carriage fee, which gives you an idea of how heavy this lot is.

So that's coming. I've also ordered a reel of, a spool of TPU, which is the flexible material that I've never actually used.

That'll be quite cool.

But I'd quite like to use that things for, you know, for gaskets and for sealing things with, you know, if you want to make something watertight, etc. So that's all coming. I'll come back and talk about it a bit more once I've got it and I've had time to play with it, but I'm quite excited with it.

It's like a Christmas present to myself. I've done quite well this year. I've been working very hard. So, you know, I think it's nice to reward yourself. And this is a reward that I get that I will be using for business because I will be making props and things out of it. It will just be something I can make props out of quicker than I could with what I had existing before.

So, I mean, I don't really have a topic, but I wanted to just kind of talk about my experience in the first week of moving in, what I found and kind of. Yeah, how it's going really.

You're two weeks in now, aren't you?

Yeah, fifth of November, so, yeah, a couple of weeks.

So I have found it really... I really enjoyed living by myself. It's a completely different experience to living with people, living at home with parents. And there's a lot more that I have to do, a lot more responsibility. I'm now obviously responsible for doing the cooking, cleaning, the washing, making sure that, you know, doing the washing up and also the clothes washing, making sure that the flat stays tidy. You know, it's very easy to just put stuff on the side and kind of just leave it and then, you know, carry on watching TV or whatever and, you know, trying to be a...

Plus financially, you need to just make sure you've got, you know, money coming in to pay all the bills, which you didn't have before.
[00:15:15.20] - Taylor
Yes. I didn't obviously really need to worry too much about, you know, budgeting things like that, because most of the stuff were just subscriptions for fun stuff, that I kind of had because I wanted them. And, you know, I didn't really have many overheads, so I didn't have to worry too much. But now that I have, you know, moved, I've got bills that have to be paid on time at a certain date every month. So just making sure that I set aside all the money that I need, make sure that I'm taking into account the things that, you know, you may not budget for normally. So just make like an emergency fund.

Maintenance.
[00:15:51.22] - Taylor
Yeah. Maintaining the flat, maintaining my car. All the little things that kind of you forget, or you don't realise you need. There's been plenty of things that I've kind of, you know, I ordered a lot on Amazon over the first week or so, and then, you know, in the second week, I've kind of ordered one or two things here or there every couple of days because I'm kind of like, "oh, I need one of them" or "I need this or I need that."

And they're not things you can really think ahead about. You sort of, you get to a point when you're putting something together or you're putting something in its place and you go, "ah, do you know what? I've got a sensor that needs to go on the wall. I need a USB cable and I don't have one long enough for it."
[00:16:31.04] - Taylor
Yeah.
[00:16:31.14] - Gordon
And it's that sort of thing, isn't it?
[00:16:33.12] - Taylor
Yeah, it's all the little things that will just come over time. And it's nice because I've kind of still got a bit of my budget left to kind of, you know, deal with those things that come up. And then I've started looking at what I can start saving for, you know, going forward. Now that I've saved for the flat and I have the flat and moved in, I want to start saving for new things because, you know, I think it's always important and always nice to work towards a goal. So I have multiple different savings. I've got some investments, I've got some goals where I want to redo the kitchen cabinets. So I don't really, you know, I don't need to do the whole kitchen, just need to kind of, I just wanted to get new kitchen cabinet doors. That just makes it look a bit more modern and, you know, a bit newer and, you know, smart lighting, again, making sure, you know, improving and adding to it over time to make sure that, you know, again, a lot of these things are nice to haves and are things that, you know, would be cool, but they're not essential. So I don't need to spend the money.

You can live in the flat without them and sort of work towards them as and when you can.
[00:17:43.20] - Taylor
Yeah. And so that's kind of where I am kind of going towards now. And then it's also just setting up the flat. I still have boxes in, you know, throughout the flat because it's hard sometimes to figure out where you want things to go because you think, "okay, I'll put this here." Then realise, "actually I'm going to the other side of the flat to get this every single time I need to use it, I need to move it to somewhere that's a bit more suitable." You know, with the Bibo that I have installed, you know, finding the right position for that. Because I've also got an air fryer and a...

Microwave.
[00:18:22.21] - Taylor
Yeah, a microwave on the counter and a coffee machine. So it's kind of working out do I need the air fryer on the countertop at all times or is it enough that I can put it in the cupboard and just get it out every time I need it? How often am I going to be using the air fryer? But also making sure that I'm not taking up all of the counter space so I can't actually put a plate down or I can't actually, you know, do the washing up or whatever, and all of these other things that you can't really kind of plan beforehand. You know, I did a lot of planning, a lot of researching. The photo that I actually had, like, AI generated back about seven months ago now when I first kind of was kind of approved to buy the property, I was like, "I think this would be really nice." And I had photos of the flat, of what the sellers had it, I had the dimensions of the space and I was like, "oh, this could go here, this could go there." And I would say I probably got about 95% of the way there of how it looks.

And if I showed you a picture of the AI generated, you'd be like, "oh, yeah, that's, that's your flat," because it looks very, very similar.

See, planning ahead. Always a good thing, as best you can anyway. With the limited information you might have.
[00:19:35.23] - Taylor
But there were some things that I were kind of just like, "I can't order them now. I know I want them, but I can't order them because I don't know how many I need" or "I don't know what connection I need or what, what protocol it uses." You know, I don't know what type of boiler I had. So I don't know what type of connections. And especially with the radiators and all that stuff, I didn't know what I had. So I couldn't do anything until I'd moved in.

Yeah.

So now I've moved in, I've been kind of getting all those bits and pieces and getting it all set up and working the way I want.

Very good. I think with your air fryer. Quick question will probably solve your dilemma as to where to put it. How many times have you used it since you've had it on the work surface?
[00:20:19.23] - Taylor
I've used it once, but that's because that was the first time I did like proper cooking, I guess. I've cooked pasta bake, I've cooked Spanish omelette, I've had, like frozen pizza, I had a microwave meal. I've done other bits and pieces, but they've all been like, in the pan or in a wok or whatever. So I haven't needed an air fryer, but I do have things like chips, fish fingers, lots of frozen stuff in the freezer that I can just chuck in and are really quick and easy to do. So that's, you know, that is the advantage there. But I think I could put it, you know, put it in the cupboard.

Put it in the cupboard and then, you know, you've got the option to bring it out and leave it out. But, you know, you can monitor it and see how often you use it. Yeah, that's really good. Well done in everything that you've done. I've spent a lot of time there helping to set all this up and it's looking great. I think living alone is something that he's going to, he's going to find quite strange for a little while because he's been in a house with sort of three other adults for most of the time. And a dog.

And so, yeah, that's a very big difference. It's sort of a bit more quiet, bit more lonely, maybe, but, you know, you've got FaceTime at any time, so you can talk to people, you can call us, you know. So, yeah, well done.
