So, we'll get straight into it today. On the news side, Amazon, sorry, not Amazon. Google have made a few changes. So if you are using a Google business workspace, you are going to need to take out a paid plan. As of, I think it's April. I will put the actual date in the show notes when I've checked them. But there's been a free tier for years and years and years, long, long time. And they are now forcing everybody who's on a free tier to go to a paid plan. So, we'll put a link to the news item in the show notes. So go and have a read and see if that affects you, because if it does, you may want to look elsewhere for the services that you get through this workspace, or at least you'll be warned that there'll be a fee to pay, ongoing, monthly cost for that service. So that's a big, big change. And that will affect a lot of businesses, especially those who have email with a custom domain. So that will affect a lot of those people. So if that's you, this is something you need to go look at. So, Taylor, do you want to start today?

We are going there because a friend of mine that we've mentioned on this podcast before, a gentleman called Marc Summers, owns several companies and he is actually exhibiting at a conference or a convention in Las Vegas. And so we are going, well, I'm going over to help him for that.

And then I will be helping him with his websites in the second week, I think it is. So I have the whole of three, four days in Las Vegas by myself pretty much. Because you'll be at the exhibit during the day.

Yep. And in the evenings we'll be going to shows and things, lots of shows in Vegas.

So, yeah. So I've got four days to do whatever I want. I'll probably go and check out the casinos and just have a look and see what it's like compared to the TV and things that you see, because obviously, I have never been to Vegas. I then, on the Thursday, fly out to Ohio. So I have two friends over there actually, and I'm going to visit both of them. Both of them I met online and both of them, well one of them I work with and do websites and stuff like that.

And the other one is just a friend. And yeah, going out to see them for a couple of days. I think I'm there for four days and then I fly to Austin from there to meet up with you and Marc who fly back the day after I leave for Ohio. And then yeah, I spend the week working for Marc with his websites, helping him because obviously that's what I do. And then we have another week to do whatever we want really.

Yeah. So Austin is in Texas and that's where Marc is based, and where his businesses are based. And so yes, I'm helping out at the beginning with the convention and standing on the stand all day, which is hard work.

Yeah, it's very very tiring. And then the second week you are helping with web and online endeavours. Marc is going to need to be in the office for that week because he's basically going to be dealing with orders and enquiries that have come through from the exhibition. And then we've got another half week, really, which we will be just looking around Texas and Austin and, you know, taking in the American culture.

I am actually meeting up with another friend as well in Austin, which is a really good friend of mine. Again I met online, and his name's Jonathan or he's also known as Permaslug.

He is flying, either flying or driving, over to Austin and he's going to be visiting us, which is going to be very exciting because we talk a lot, pretty much every day really. And just be great to actually meet in real life.

Yeah. This could be really exciting. And who knows, I might have some other people that I might be meeting up with. There's lots of people I know from the states. So if they're in and around the area, then I'm sure it'd be great to meet.

That's great. So that's our big news. So we will be doing our show from America, when we can. I'm not sure we'll be able to do the first week because of all the work I'm doing and the fact Taylor won't be there. But the second week definitely we'll be able to do a show from there, and we'll see if Marc would like to be our special guest. So we can explain what it is that we've been doing, maybe give you a little tour of the facility and the offices. And then the following week we are going to be flying back on the Friday. So I'm not sure we're going to be able to do that unless we do it from an airport somewhere. It depends on time zones. I don't know quite what the time zones are going to be, but once we know, we'll let you know. So that's the exciting news.

Yeah. And that's only because we're able to go now. This is something that we could have done a while back, but travelling is still difficult. We're hoping it won't be too much of a pain to do this trip ourselves.

So, yes, I mentioned last week about the subtitling and the transcriptions, and the workflow that goes into that. So at the end of an episode of This Week With, it's gone live, it's now on YouTube and it's on Facebook. What we do is we take the YouTube video and we crop it. So you may notice that we've got a timer at the beginning of our videos. If you've watched live, you'll see that there's a countdown timer and we crop that off after the video has gone live; basically because it's not necessary for anyone who's watching it back. And once we've done that, that takes about a day to do as far as YouTube is concerned. So once the video's gone live, we normally do that on the Saturday, or sometimes the Friday depends on the workload, and that takes a day or so to do. The next step is to take that video into our transcription software. Now, this is an online service that we've mentioned before called 'Happy Scribe,' and it's a great service. The only reason we got this service as a lifetime deal is because of This Week With, it was purchased specifically for transcribing these videos. So once the video on YouTube has been cropped, we then import that video into Happy Scribe and Happy Scribe then transcribes it in a machine way. So a machine will look at the video, listen to the audio, and transcribe it as best it can.

Yeah, like AI type of thing, and it learns.

Yeah. And it looks at your very own custom dictionary as well. So that if it's not sure of certain words that are specific to the industry, it can look at those and hopefully that will help it. Now, it does a good job. It does a very good job. It's not a perfect job, though. There are quite often some hilarious changes that it makes when we say something and it transcribes it as something completely different.

So we actually have somebody that goes in and manually goes through the transcription. They add the name of the speaker, so Happy Scribe will split it out into two different speakers in our case, because there's two speakers in our videos. And the person that goes in and does this for us will actually change the name of the speaker. And they only need to do it once, because what it does is Happy Scribe will know that person A or speaker one is speaking, and then speaker two is speaking and then the next person is back to speaker one. So you just have to name speaker one once and it will then rename that speaker one throughout the entire video or transcript. The next job is to go through all the actual text, listening to the audio, and correcting any typo... typos isn't the right word because it's a computer that's created it, but any mistakes that have been made, and that includes any grammatical errors that maybe the AI has not put commas or punctuation in. And it will also go through, they will also go through and they will change any mistakes in the actual text.

Yeah. Like the names of things quite often is wrong. If there's a certain website, for example, that we mention, that's likely to be wrong. And so this person goes through the whole video in real time. So it takes longer than it, real time does because you have to stop and make the changes, and fix all those errors. Once that's been done, they alert us. We then go in and we export the transcription. Now the transcription comes out as a text file. So what we do is we take that text file, we put it onto the website for the relevant episode, which is already live. So the transcripts won't be there until probably Tuesday-ish depending on how quickly the manual human person has been able to go in and fix all the issues. So the transcripts go up about Tuesday, and that is a copy and paste. We can then export from Happy Scribe as a subtitled file with timings, which is very clever. And that file is then automatic... not automatically - that file is then uploaded manually to YouTube as a subtitle file, which means that we know that the subtitles are going to be correct. Youtube does its own subtitles, but they are again machine AI, so you get similar sort of mistakes to Happy Scribe. So having a manual human do it is a much better way of getting your subtitles. Once that's done, we then go back to Happy Scribe and we translate the text into Spanish, French and German, and then each of those are exported manually as a subtitle file and we create those languages within YouTube and we upload the subtitles for each language onto there so that we have English, Spanish, French and German subtitles available. Now, we don't have someone manually check the translations. That would just be so much work and effort for very little return, basically. So we just let the machine do it and we just trust that the transcription or the translation is correct; and they get uploaded to YouTube. Again, this is on the Tuesday-ish, Tuesday or Wednesday. It depends when I have the time to go in and do it. This is a process that I do myself. So that is all done, and while we're waiting right at the beginning, once the video has gone live, while we're waiting for the video to...

Render and process in YouTube before we're able to crop and trim it, that is the point at which I do the high level show notes. So it's basically placeholder text to allow you to see what the content of the show was without going into too much depth. So that's a job that I do, normally on the Friday after the show. It's not always the case, but that's when I try and do it. And then sort of Tuesday, Wednesday, everything is done and we are working on the next episode.

What we're going to talk about, what we're going to say; and so it goes on. So we thought it would be quite useful for you to understand the workflow that's involved once a video has gone live, and how we go from that video through to the fully transcribed, translated, subtitled videos that appear on the website and on YouTube on Tuesday or Wednesday. Now we can take the subtitles and save them out as Facebook subtitles. However, that doesn't seem to work.

I've tried it several times now, and uploading the subtitles to Facebook just don't seem to work for us. So something is wrong there, either our video, or Facebook, or the subtitles, I don't know which, so we don't bother with that. So if you're watching on Facebook, the subtitles you see there are created by Facebook, we haven't made any changes to that. And that's it. It's quite a long process. It's quite a bit of work involved for several people. But for you, the viewer or the listener, we feel it's important. And it does make it a lot easier when you're doing searches on the website, because...

Indexed. And allows us to then search, or allows you to then search through every episode and find what you need very quickly and easily. So, yes, that's the process. It's quite good.

It is quite lengthy, but it's a really good workflow and it works really well. And it is lengthy, as in the number of days that it takes for the subtitles and the transcripts to go live. But as far as the actual work involved, the work in copying and pasting is very simple. The work for cropping the video is very simple. The work for uploading to Happy Scribe is very simple. The most lengthy process is the actual checking of the transcription, which we are very grateful to the person who does for us. Thank you very much for doing that.
