And welcome to "This Week With Taylor and Gordon," a weekly podcast and vidcast, where we talk about things that have affected our businesses over the last seven days. And thank you very much for joining us. How's your week been?

My week's been very good.

Excellent. Mine's also been very good. Just catching up with things from when I got back from Blackpool. There's lots of new bits and pieces that I purchased there that I've been playing with, trying to learn. And yeah, we've got the whole week coming up that is going to be very interesting, and that's part of my topic. Let's see, would you like to go first or shall I?

So next week, Taylor and I are going to be at a convention for professional Bubble Artists. We have such a great life, don't we? Isn't it a fun thing we do?
[00:01:07.12] - Taylor
It's good fun.

How many other people get to go there and class it as work, basically? So yes, we are going to something called POP, which is the Bubble Convention for the Association of International Bubble Artists. Now, you might have heard us speak about this before because Taylor and I built their website, and that's been going very, very well. And we've been asked to go along and film all of the lectures and shows that are happening while we are there. So we're going to be leaving here Tuesday evening and driving over to I think it's Basingstoke, which is where the whole place starts on the Wednesday. And then we're basically there Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and coming home on the Sunday. And during that time, there are speakers who are going to be speaking on lots of different topics. I'm one of the speakers, so I've got to make sure I'm ready for that as well. The recordings that we make are then going to be put up onto the website and available to members. I'm not sure if it's going to be an extra fee and those who are at the event get them for free, because a lot of the events are happening at the same time.

So similar to Blackpool, in fact, there are two events, and sometimes three events, happening at the same time. And so Taylor and I, between us, have got to make sure we cover all of those events and film them all. Now, this is quite a lot of planning in my case, because I've got to make sure that we've got cameras available for each venue. I've got to make sure we collect good quality sound. And we also, because there's about, I think there's about 30ish sessions that happen over the four days, plus a theatre show, we've got to make sure that we capture everything and then edit it as we go and then upload it, because otherwise I'm going to either run out of storage space on various devices that I'm going to be taking with me, SSDs and so on, or I'm going to just end up with a whole tonne of work to do. And if there's a problem, I need to know about it urgently when we start so that it can be fixed for future sessions. That way we're not going to mess up all the recordings. Because the worst thing you can do is get home from an event and then find that for some reason it wasn't recording.

It's a one-off event. It's not like you can go back and do it again. So it's really important we do it at the time. So the plan is to take along my main desktop computer. And after each session, we will collate. I think there's like 15 minute break between each session. So during that time, we'll collate the footage. Taylor will be in one room, I'll be in another room. And then when there's three sessions, I'm going to ask Taylor to do the third one as well, because I'm going to be taking the footage that we've just had in the last session, which could be two or three events. And then during the session that's going on, I will be bringing all the data in and making sure they're all synchronised with the audio and then exporting them and uploading them, so that by the time we finish the next session, hopefully all of the previous sessions are done and dusted and uploaded. And that way we can make sure that we keep ahead of everything. But there's a lot of tech that I need to take with me because we're going to use the DJI microphones, which we're going to give to each speaker.

Now, I've only got four of those, so we need to plan ahead. And if there's not going to be a microphone for someone during maybe the sessions when there's three going on at once, and maybe there's two or three people in one of them, which is going to cause me problems. I need to then find a way to record another way. Just maybe that because we've run out of microphones, the audio is just going to be ambient audio. We just have to make do with that. And the videoing, so I'm going to use my DSLR camera for one of the rooms. My thinking at the moment is I'm going to use my pocket Osmo, which is a camera that normally follows people around, but I'm not going to do the following round, I'm just going to have it static. And also we're going to use a phone for the third source, because I think that's a good use as well because they've got good cameras and all we need is a static shot that's basically viewing the angle of what's happening, basically. So, yeah, it's a lot of planning, a lot of equipment I've got to take with me.

And the plan, I think, will be to potentially bring everything or lock everything away or take it back to the room at the end of the day and then bring it back down again in the morning, which is, again, a bit of set up required. But I think it's going to be fun.
[00:06:50.09] - Taylor
Yeah, it should be good.

And I get to spend time with Taylor, which is lovely. Always a good thing to do. And we get to have a bit of fun. We get to go out for meals. We get to watch the show. And again, what we might do is have a couple of angles at the show just so that we've got bases covered, all bases covered. And then the show will be, hopefully, the only thing I have to edit when I get back, because that's going to be the Saturday night, and there will be no time to edit that. Plus, if we're using multiple angles, that's also going to make it difficult. So, yeah, we'll do that when we get back. So, yeah, that's going to be next week. We may or we may not be able to do a This Week With. I mean, it'd be quite fun to do one there because it's going to be a different location and different backdrop, and we might even speak to other people that are there. There's a gentleman called Damian who's organising it, and it might be quite nice to get his thoughts on how it's going and so on. But we'll have to see.

It all depends because obviously, it's all time that we may or may not have. So we'll have to see. The days are quite full. There's a lot of sessions going on, so we need to make sure that that is our focus. So we may be with you, we may not. We'll have to wait and see. Are you looking forward to it?

Yeah, it's going to be a bit of fun. And if Taylor takes his laptop along with him, as long as he's starting and stopping the recordings and then bring them to me, he can also get on with work as well while he's there, which is one of the reasons you're coming, isn't it? Because you're not taking a week off work. You're actually going to be doing things. So that's my topic for today. What would you like to speak about?

So this week I want to talk about a little app I built called CinemaSync. So CinemaSync is a little app that I built to solve a problem that we both faced. So we go to the cinema once a week and we always say to the other person, "What do you fancy seeing this week?" And we essentially just look on the Cineworld website for the day that we're going, have a look, see what films there are and just pick a couple of them and just send them in a text message. We then have to then go to the website, find the film, find the trailer, do a bit of research about the film, who's in it, and things like that. And a bit of a faff.

Yeah.

So I built a little app that allows you to search for any film, and it will essentially put it into a review timeline.

It's a comparison thing, isn't it? Anyone who's been to one of these sites where, like Currys for example, do it because I was on it today. You can choose different products and you can compare them and it just shows them next to each other with the specs. It's a bit like that, isn't it?
[00:09:41.20] - Taylor
Yeah, it shows you the poster, it shows you the title, genres, ratings from IMDb and things like that, who's in it. I built this. I made it so that you could share it based on the ID from TMDb, which is an open source API platform for movies and TV shows. And then I thought, it's a bit of a pain to have to go and look at the Cineworld website, find the films you want to look at, and then copy them into the little app. So I actually reverse engineered the the Cineworld website to get a list of every single cinema that they have with all of their details, where the location is, the cinema ID, because that's what you need. And then also then being able to look up all of the films that are going on on a specific day. So the idea is you select the cinemas you want. So you say, "I want to go to this one and this one." It then says, "What day do you want to go to the cinema?" And you select the date, and then it will then show you a list of all of the films and the timings for those films in a little table, and you can then go and select the times that you want.

The nice thing is if you had multiple cinemas in the area that you live, but they are from different chains. So for example, Cineworld and Vue. You could actually select both Cineworld and Vue as the two cinemas that are nearest to you, and it will then show you the films with the timings for each of the cinemas underneath them. So not only can you say, "Hey, which film do you prefer?" But you can actually see the times that those films are going to be on at. So yes, you may prefer to see a certain film, but if it's going to be nine o'clock at night, you may actually not want to go and see it. So it gives you that context of which cinema you can see it at, what time it will be, what the film is about, watch the trailer, all inside of a single little page.

Which is really cool. There is one thing you haven't got in there yet, which is probably not even important. But for example, Cineworld have different types of screen as well. They've got an IMAX, they've got 4DX, they've got... What's the other one? Screenx. So they've got different types of screens. I don't know if that's information that can be pulled in as well, because if you're comparing different cinemas, it's also nice to compare the different screens, because if you want to go and see a film and there's one 10 minutes later, a different cinema, but it's in IMAX, for example, and you prefer watching in IMAX, then that's going to make your decision for you, isn't it?

It's a great little system you've made. Is it needed? Not really. It's something we do once a week, very little. But it's a really nice little test project for you, really. And it might be of use for other people because other people may have-
[00:12:44.21] - Taylor
It's similar to when you share your calendar with people and say, "Hey, please book a time with me," and you give them only a handful of dates and times that they can book from. You've already preset a lot of the stuff, and they just have to choose which one. It, again, narrows it down and allows you to have all the information that you need and potentially make finding a film with somebody a bit easier.

Yeah, because you can just specify the ones that are in the running, send the link to everyone, and they can come back with the film that they want to see, which is great. And you can click on the artwork for the film, and it will show you the trailer, which is really nice. Yeah, just lovely little things. And the interface looks really good as well, I really like that. Well done, Taylor. Nice little project for you there. We are pretty much done, I think. Is there anything else you want to say?
