Hello.
[00:00:11.020] - Taylor
Hello.
[00:00:11.500] - Gordon
My name's Gordon from Drayson Design.
[00:00:13.450] - Taylor
And I'm Taylor from The Creative Tinker.
[00:00:15.710] - Gordon
And welcome to "This Week with Taylor and Gordon," a weekly podcast and vidcast where we talk about things that have been affecting our businesses in the last seven days. And this is a very special episode.
[00:00:30.010] - Taylor
It is the one year anniversary or one year of episodes. So 52 episodes that we have done. Yes, it's exciting. We, yeah, we didn't think we'd get this far.
[00:00:42.580] - Gordon
Well, we didn't think we'd get to the second month really did we?
[00:00:45.610] - Taylor
No.
[00:00:45.610] - Gordon
We were doing this just to sort of find something to do during lockdown and to find a way to document what we were up to and...
[00:00:56.050] - Taylor
Yeah. So I wanted, I mean I originally came up with the idea, I think, because I wanted a way to be able to look back and see what was I working on, what was I doing, how has my business changed, you know where I was, where I am now. So I, that's why I wanted to kind of start it. And then, you know I asked you and, you know, we thought it would be interesting, because it's two you know, self-employed people at different places in our business.
[00:01:20.650] - Gordon
And here we are, 52 episodes in.
[00:01:24.230] - Taylor
Yeah.
[00:01:24.700] - Gordon
That's amazing. So it's not, it's over a year, because there are a few weeks that we we missed out on and we weren't able to do for whatever reason due to illness or, you know, us not being around for whatever reason.
[00:01:41.410] - Taylor
Taking breaks as well.
[00:01:43.810] - Gordon
We took breaks, yeah over Christmas time, we decided not to do an episode on Christmas Day or New Year's Day. Which, you know, just hopefully you didn't mind missing out on those two. You were probably busy yourself. So, yes, lots of content. We always wonder actually, when we're sort of getting ready for this show, we always think, "oh, have we got anything that we can talk about?" And 52 episodes in we've pretty much managed to find something to, something of interest, to talk about every week,
[00:02:19.970] - Taylor
It's about 100 ish topics, because if we both have one topic each. I think when we originally started, we probably spoke about, we probably had more than one topic each. And then we quickly realised that we're going to end up probably not being able to figure out, find anything at all. So we kind of reduced it to one topic each, which allowed us to expand on it more and say more about it.
[00:02:41.600] - Gordon
And maybe some news items if there was anything.
[00:02:43.630] - Taylor
Yeah.
[00:02:44.050] - Gordon
Yeah. So if you have been with us for any of that journey, thank you for joining us. We have a very special announcement at the end of this podcast, this vidcast. So stick around for that. We are, we're giving stuff away, aren't we?
[00:03:01.280] - Taylor
Yeah, we are.
[00:03:02.210] - Gordon
So stay tuned, we will explain that at the end. Before we get to that, I wanted to talk about something that we've decided to add to our podcast and vidcast, which, well, mainly the vidcast actually, which is an awful lot of work, and I don't know quite why I decided that, that your suggestion was a good suggestion, but we have already started down this route now. So one of the things that we get with our videos both on Facebook and on YouTube is we get captions that are automatically generated and sometimes they...
[00:03:44.690] - Taylor
Can be interesting.
[00:03:45.650] - Gordon
Can be very interesting, yeah, we've had quite a few weirdo captions that have come up. And so we've been looking now for a solution to allow us to create subtitles and to create a time-coded document of what we say during these... [dog barking] We seem to have someone at our front door. That's our dog. Very excited that it's the 52nd episode. So, yes, we wanted to find a way to be able to subtitle and have control over those subtitles for the videos on Facebook and YouTube, but also to be able to have a time-coded transcript of what we say.
[00:04:38.690] - Taylor
Yeah so like a blog post which hopefully, you know, will make it easier for you guys if you're searching on the website, because you can hopefully search in not only the show notes that we write, but also the actual transcription, but also for SEO purposes, we haven't really looked at it, touched on it. And hopefully if we can start kind of, you know, being picked up by the kind of search engines or people searching for what we're talking about, you know, because Google doesn't search video, they can't you know return results. So this should obviously help.
[00:05:14.030] - Gordon
Or audio.
[00:05:14.930] - Taylor
Yeah.
[00:05:15.380] - Gordon
So all of our content was not being indexed, only the sort of the headlines or the show notes that we put up. So, we've been looking at different options and we've plumped for if you're interested, we've plumped for a company called "Happy Scribe," which allows us to upload, well, the video that we stream goes onto YouTube and Facebook. We can then take the link for the YouTube video and it will import it into Happy Scribe. We then need to go through that video looking at the captions that it has created, the subtitles it's created, and just make changes as and when needed, and then upload those subtitles to the YouTube video, which then overwrite the automated ones. So we are going to be doing that, going forward from this episode onwards. So hopefully the captions will you know, the subtitles will look a lot better. However, Taylor said, "why don't we do all of the episodes?"
[00:06:20.500] - Taylor
Yeah.
[00:06:21.200] - Gordon
51 other episodes is going to take a while just to check them. There is an automation involved in this, where the the software will automate a lot of it, but it doesn't pick up everything, doesn't make...
[00:06:38.410] - Taylor
Just monitoring it mostly.
[00:06:39.770] - Gordon
Yeah. It's a matter of going through every single episode and just checking it basically. I may see if I can find someone to do that for us because it's, we also get a limited amount of transcript per month. So it's going to take, you know, possibly the next year to do every episode, because....
[00:07:02.210] - Taylor
We only get four hours.
[00:07:03.350] - Gordon
We get four hours per month.
[00:07:05.450] - Taylor
And we use about two a month for...
[00:07:08.040] - Gordon
For new episodes.
[00:07:09.650] - Taylor
So we get two hours, about ish, a month on past episodes to do.
[00:07:14.690] - Gordon
Yes. So it will take time to do. But over a period of time you will see that the subtitles get a lot better and you'll be able to see in the website, we will add on a section so that you can have the transcript and you can look at that. If you are a reader rather than a listener and a viewer and you prefer to read, then you can read the transcript. And if you want to see the bits, then at the moment we're going to be putting the time codes in so you can go and find that bit in the video.
[00:07:48.920] - Taylor
Yeah.
[00:07:49.610] - Gordon
So, yeah, big news, big job. And because of that, we need new subscribers, we want more people just to follow us, share our content and get involved really. And so what have we done? Because it's our anniversary.
[00:08:07.580] - Taylor
We have decided to run two giveaways.
[00:08:11.130] - Gordon
Two giveaways! Not one, two!
[00:08:13.550] - Taylor
Yeah. One each. So to start it off, my giveaway is going to be one year's free hosting for any WordPress website. So, yeah, you get one year's free hosting, everything will be managed by me and all you need to do is...
[00:08:33.390] - Gordon
Hang on, shall I tell them what mine is first?
[00:08:34.980] - Taylor
OK.
[00:08:35.400] - Gordon
Ok. Yeah, I'll tell you. So we want to tell you what were you going to potentially win in this giveaway and then we'll tell you how to do it. So for me, I have a product that I have discussed before and I can't remember which episode, if I find it, I'll put it in the show notes. But it is my Drayson Design review system which allows you to basically add a review service onto your website, pretty much any website, not just WordPress, with a small line of code, small paragraph of code that you put into your website, and then you can generate Google reviews, Facebook reviews, there are others that I don't recall because I don't use them. But it will allow people to go to your website, leave a testimonial or review on those services, and then it will pull those into your website and allow you to view them on your page with all of the reviews in one place. And it's a great way of building your social proof. And that is normally a value of £50 per year. And that is going to be my free giveaway as part of our anniversary. How much is yours worth by the way?
[00:09:53.190] - Taylor
So my "Brochure Light", which is a five page site, is £60 a year.
[00:10:00.210] - Gordon
OK, so we've got £110 worth of giveaways up for grabs for the viewers of our episode. And how do they go about entering this Taylor?
[00:10:13.830] - Taylor
You can visit /giveaway on our website. So thisweekwith.co.uk/giveaway. All the kind of instructions and details will be on there and you can go through them and enter.
[00:10:29.250] - Gordon
So we're basically looking for you to help us spread the word about This Week With. So we want you to tell everyone that you think would be interested. People who have got businesses, business people, small businesses, mainly, people...
[00:10:43.710] - Taylor
Like tech and, you know, technology and things on the internet.
[00:10:48.180] - Gordon
And software. We talk a lot about software. So if you know someone who's into, you know, web software, you know, tell them about us. Let us, let them come and find us. We now have a year or 52 episodes worth of content. I don't know how long that is in total.
[00:11:08.940] - Taylor
We might have to have a look and see.
[00:11:09.930] - Gordon
Yeah, I think we should. We'll calculate how many hours worth of content we've done in that 52 episodes and we'll put that in the show notes. In fact, how about we have just another sort of contest. Have a guess how long our content is over the last 52 episodes, including this episode. And we'll have a prize, don't know what it is yet, we'll have a prize and we will award that prize...
[00:11:46.470] - Taylor
To the closest person.
[00:11:47.460] - Gordon
In a couple of weeks maybe, to the person who gets the closest. Yes. So you can if you want, spend your time going through every single episode and working out the length of them. Bear in mind, actually, we need to be clear on this, that the the videos, depending on how they've been cropped, because we have a sort of a header that we end up cropping, maybe slightly longer. So we'll do it on the audio. OK, so we'll do it on the audio. So you are doing the entire length of all of the content that we've put out on this channel through the podcast, so the audio side of it, and whoever gets closest, we will find a prize for you.
[00:12:32.430] - Taylor
Yeah.
[00:12:32.790] - Gordon
And it'll be a reasonable prize. Yeah. So just leave, the way you would enter that is to leave your guess in the comments, that can be either on Facebook or YouTube, whichever you prefer. So that's three giveaways we have now, that's quite exciting. And again we will announce the winners in a couple of weeks time give people a bit of time to enter. So yeah. That URL again Taylor.
[00:13:04.260] - Taylor
thisweekwith.co.uk/giveaway
[00:13:07.440] - Gordon
And all the details will be on that page.
[00:13:09.630] - Taylor
Yes.
[00:13:10.380] - Gordon
Fantastic. So good luck. We look forward to giving away our services and our products to you, to the winners. So you can't win it unless you enter and it's not anything taxing, it's just basically sharing our content or sharing it to people you think might be interested. It's as simple as that. We just want to find a way to...
[00:13:32.690] - Taylor
Reach more people.
[00:13:33.470] - Gordon
Reach more people, exactly right. So I think that's all we have for this episode.
[00:13:38.560] - Taylor
Yeah.
[00:13:38.900] - Gordon
Quite an exciting episode. Lots of exciting things we've been discussing.
[00:13:45.260] - Taylor
Yeah, lots of developments and advancements
[00:13:47.570] - Gordon
For the channel.
[00:13:48.300] - Taylor
Yeah.
[00:13:48.680] - Gordon
Yeah. So as always, and you might not want to do this this week. You might want to enter our giveaway instead, but please share, like and subscribe on YouTube and Facebook.
[00:14:01.350] - Taylor
You can also go to our website thisweekwith.co.uk where you can find all of our past episodes and you can search for them.
[00:14:09.080] - Gordon
And over time you will see the transcripts appearing on the pages. We're going to work backwards, so the earliest episodes will be the last ones to be done. So the more recent content is the content that we're going to work on first. So that's it for me. I think that's it from you?
[00:14:32.300] - Taylor
Yeah.
[00:14:32.300] - Gordon
Thank you for joining us. We'll see you next week, This Week With. My name is Gordon from Drayson Design.
[00:14:39.200] - Taylor
And I'm Taylor from The Creative Tinker.
[00:14:41.810] - Gordon
Goodbye.
[00:14:42.320] - Taylor
Bye.
